Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers have been the most used precursor for carbon fibers manufacturing. PAN based carbon fibers should be manufactured by thermal treatment. Stabilization is necessary in an air for hours to maintain the carbonization process, to increase carbon yield and to get the high-performance carbon fiber.
In this laboratory, the stabilization process is carried out in an air atmosphere in the stepwise temperature range of 180~300oC. In this continuous stabilization oven, the main three parameters (time, temperature and tension) can be controlled and this controlled experiment affect to not only basis research of stabilized-PAN fiber but also as key factor of carbon fiber industry.
